Clothing Policy

Ensuring the safety of your children

As teachers and coaches we strive to deliver safe and effective physical education. Therefore, to ensure safety, we want to make certain that all children are suitably dressed to participate in our lessons.

Most schools have their own policies on school uniform which normally includes a PE kit. In line with the majority of schools, and to promote hygiene, we would expect every pupil to have a different set of clothes which they should wear for PE lessons. This kit should include:

Jogging bottoms
Shorts for hot weather and indoor PE
T-shirt or polo shirt
Socks
Trainers
Sweatshirt for cold weather

It is also essential that children remove all items of jewellery and that long hair is tied back.

Children are expected to take part in PE lessons throughout the school year and therefore can experience a range of weather conditions. With this in mind, if the weather is very cold and the teacher is wearing a coat, then it is perfectly acceptable for the children to wear coats over their PE kits, they would after all wear coats when they went out to play at lunchtime. Please note that, for safety reasons, coats worn during PE must be fastened as stray zips and buttons can cause injury. In the same way, we must also protect the children from very hot weather and it is recommended that children wear sun cream and a sunhat in the summer months.

These are recommendations made by Teach School Sport, but essentially it is down to the preferences of each school and our teachers and coaches will follow and respect the policies of the school they are working in.
